What examiners said
Many candidates were able to identify the irrational number ( 1000 ). Common errors were 100 and 31.
— Examiner report, October/November 2023, 0980/31 Q1(c)(v) (Cambridge)
The question stated that there were two irrational numbers and so both were required to gain credit. While some did correctly identify the two numbers, it was clear that many did not understand irrational numbers. Most found one correctly, either π or √3.
— Examiner report, May/June 2022, 0980/12 Q16 (Cambridge)
Most candidates were able to select the irrational number but √9 was often seen. Again, some assumed there was more than one irrational number. Many did not understand irrational resulting in a variety of incorrect choices.
— Examiner report, May/June 2021, 0980/12 Q13(b) (Cambridge)
