What examiners said
Most candidates tackled this question successfully but it was surprising that nearly one fifth did not attempt it and a small number put 72 instead of seventy-two. Otherwise, the main confusion was between billions and millions while thousands for both was seen at times.
— Examiner report, May/June 2024, 0980/12 Q1 (Cambridge)
Most responses involved a straight division by 4. The best responses wrote the answer exactly, either as a decimal or fraction. In some cases, the answer was given having rounded or truncated to 3 figures, without working shown.
— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 0980/12 Q4(a) (Cambridge)
Many fully correct answers were seen for this question. In some responses, the answer was in the form of a number written in words. Only a small number of responses gave an incorrect exponent, while others omitted the decimal point.
