What examiners said
Candidates found this difficult. ‘Methyl butanoate’, ‘ethyl butanoate’ and ‘butanoic acid’ were common incorrect responses. Structures often contained a five valent carbon atom, had –O–H– or were guesses.
— Examiner report, October/November 2022, 5070/21 Q7(b)(iii) (Cambridge)
Propene was very well known. ‘Ethene’, ‘butene’ and ‘propane’ were common responses.
— Examiner report, May/June 2022, 5070/21 Q8(a) (Cambridge)
The most common answers were high temperature, high pressure and/or the use of a catalyst.
