What examiners said
With 5 possible ways of getting a partial factorisation, one mark was very common. While some did not understand how to factorise, many did achieve the correct answer, even though this was quite involved due to 2, 5 or 10, as well as x, being factors that could be taken outside the bracket.
— Examiner report, May/June 2024, 0980/12 Q14 (Cambridge)
Most candidates answered this question correctly. The common error was 63.
— Examiner report, May/June 2024, 0980/32 Q1(a)(i) (Cambridge)
This was generally well answered with most students attempting an answer. Most candidates understood that they had to treat the numerical part of 8 ÷ 2 separately from the variable, although a common mistake was to either subtract both or divide both resulting in 4x3 or 6x4. Some candidates did part of the working but failed to complete the calculation for full marks, with an answer of 22x4.
