What examiners said
This question was challenging for candidates. Many wrote the correct formula for density, ρ = m ÷ V, but did not rearrange the formula correctly to give V = m ÷ ρ. Only a minority succeeded in doing the calculation by dividing the mass by the density. Many candidates calculated 7900 ÷ 150, which gave a result of 52.7 m3. Candidates should always assess how realistic their answers are and check the...
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/31 Q8(a)(ii) (Cambridge)
Most candidates used their answers to (a)(iii) and (c)(i) to calculate a correct value for P. Fewer were able to state the units for their answer correctly. Although Pa is a unit of pressure, this was incorrect for most responses, which were calculated as N / cm2.
— Examiner report, February/March 2025, 0653/62 Q4(d) (Cambridge)
Most candidates stated that Y had an increased surface area compared to X, causing a decrease in pressure. A few candidates incorrectly stated that P increases as area increases. Some candidates incorrectly stated that the force F is also affected.
