What examiners said
Candidates should be reminded to read questions carefully. Some candidates tried to explain why breathing rate increased during exercise, which is not what the question required. Few candidates were able to accurately describe the breakdown of lactic acid in the liver by aerobic respiration.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0654/42 Q2(d) (Cambridge)
Some candidates misinterpreted the question and gave the name of the part labelled in Figure 1.1 rather than how the parts were adapted for photosynthesis. The best responses linked the parts with their role in photosynthesis.
— Examiner report, February/March 2025, 0654/42 Q1(a) (Cambridge)
This question asked candidates to describe and explain the results. Many candidates simply gave a description of the data and did not relate light intensity or energy from light to photosynthesis and the subsequent production of oxygen.
