What examiners said

The most common misconception was that the loss of oxygen is oxidation. Stronger candidates were more likely to distinguish correctly between exothermic and endothermic and also between saturated and unsaturated.

— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 5129/22 Q5 (Cambridge)

Most candidates were able to name an enzyme in the digestive system. Very few candidates knew that an enzyme is a protein molecule and that a gene is the area on a chromosome that codes for an enzyme. The common error was DNA instead of gene.

— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 5129/22 Q8(a) (Cambridge)

The lock and key mechanism to explain enzyme action is new to the syllabus. However, most of the stronger candidates were able to draw a correct diagram.

— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 5129/22 Q8(b) (Cambridge)
