What examiners said
Many completely correct solutions were seen, showing that candidates had a good understanding of the syllabus for transformation of straight line graphs. Most candidates were able to find the correct gradient of the straight line and were familiar with the form the equation should take, There were some errors when substituting to find the value of c, with the incorrect substitution of 2.252 or 4.7...
— Examiner report, October/November 2023, 4037/12 Q3 (Cambridge)
Many correct solutions were seen, although some candidates were unable to deal with 2lg ( 2x + 5) correctly. Most candidates realised that base 10 logarithms were involved and were able to obtain a quadratic equation by using the laws of logarithms correctly. Subsequent solution of this quadratic equation was usually done correctly, and exact solutions were given.
— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 4037/12 Q5(b) (Cambridge)
This question was well answered, and many fully correct solutions were seen. Some candidates found the gradient and intercept correctly but did not put them into the appropriate linear form. A common error was to add rather than multiply when removing the log from a correct linear equation. The question required the final answer to be given in a specific form, so it was not sufficient to only stat...
