What examiners said
The majority of candidates were able to correctly recall the equation for power and to evaluate the power output of the electric motor as 16 W. The most common error was to multiply the work by the distance to give an answer of 400.
— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 0972/31 Q4(b) (Cambridge)
The correct answer was obtained when candidates realised that that they needed to use the energy calculated in (a)(i) and the power given in this part of the question to calculate the time. Answers in minutes (144 minutes) or hours (2.4 hours) were acceptable. Many candidates tried to use ratios with a common wrong answer being 25 minutes.
— Examiner report, May/June 2022, 0972/42 Q1(b) (Cambridge)
Only the strongest candidates were able to suggest a cause of the inefficiency.
— Examiner report, May/June 2019, 0972/41 Q3(c)(ii) (Cambridge)
