What examiners said

Some candidates correctly identified both components. Where candidates identified one component correctly it was usually the brushes. Common errors in identifying the slip rings involved confusion between a generator and a motor and calling B either split rings or a commutator.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0625/41 Q8(a)(i) (Cambridge)

Most candidates correctly identified component X as a light dependent resistor (LDR). A common incorrect answer from weaker candidates was resistor, which was too imprecise to gain credit.

— Examiner report, May/June 2022, 0625/43 Q8(a)(i) (Cambridge)

Almost all candidates drew the correct symbol for a voltmeter connected in parallel with Y on the figure. A small number of candidates made no attempt at this question.

— Examiner report, May/June 2022, 0625/43 Q8(a)(ii) (Cambridge)
