What examiners said
There was evidence that candidates were able to use the laws of logs however the main problem here was candidates not recognising that 2 = log100 .

This question was well answered with the majority of candidates scoring full marks, showing an excellent understanding of the rules of logs. Marks were lost with candidates combining ‘numbers’ correctly but missing out ‘log’ in their final answer.

Part (i) was answered successfully by most. In part (ii), those who chose to change the fractions to decimals to make their comparison fared better. Less successful were those who changed to fractions with a common denominator. Others seemed to guess the order.
