What examiners said
The part labelled P corresponded to the lower epidermis layer of cells. This was not widely known. The main incorrect answers were guard cells and stomata. Candidates should be aware that they should be able to identify the structures in a dicotyledonous leaf, including the lower epidermis.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/32 Q2(a)(i) (Cambridge)
Some candidates identified a spongy mesophyll cell correctly. Credit was also given to those candidates who successfully identified the whole spongy mesophyll layer. Candidates should make sure that their label line touches the intended cell, rather than the air spaces that surround the spongy mesophyll cells.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/32 Q2(a)(ii) (Cambridge)
Chlorophyll, the pigment found in the part labelled Q was successfully named by many candidates. The most common incorrect response was chloroplast. Candidates should be aware that the part labelled Q is the chloroplast, this is the part of the cell that contains the green pigment chlorophyll.
