What examiners said

In this parallel circuit the total current is shared by the two branches. The information at the start of the question states that the current in the electric heater is 3.2 A. For this part of the question, the current through the lamp is 0.20 A. Adding the currents in the two branches together gives a total ammeter reading of 3.4 A. A few candidates gained credit for this question. Many responses...

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/32 Q8(b)(iii) (Cambridge)

Most candidates knew the symbol for a voltmeter. Fewer made the parallel connection across the lamp. The most common errors were placing the voltmeter in series in the circuit or placing it in parallel across the wrong component.

— Examiner report, February/March 2025, 0653/32 Q9(c)(ii) (Cambridge)

Most candidates drew the correct symbol for a fuse. Incorrect responses included symbols for switches, heaters and variable resistors. Candidates should be aware that the syllabus contains a list of electrical symbols required for the examination.
