What examiners said

The voltage and current were multiplied together to give the power of the battery. This was done successfully by some candidates. The most common error was dividing the voltage by the current to give an answer of 1.6. Dividing the voltage by the current gives the resistance.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/31 Q7(b)(ii) (Cambridge)

Candidates needed to recall the equation relating power to voltage and current. Candidates who recalled this equation generally gained credit for calculating the current in the circuit. A common error was to use the rating of the fuse in the calculation. Only a few candidates could justify that the 30 A fuse was unsuitable as it could allow a current that could damage the appliance.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/43 Q8(c)(ii) (Cambridge)

Most candidates were very familiar with the relationship power = p.d. current and could use it to find the power supplied to the heater. Common errors included forgetting to convert 1920 W to kW and incorrect forms of the formula for power.
