What examiners said

Many candidates recognised that friction reduces the efficiency of the car. However, a more detailed response that referred to the thermal energy produced due to the friction or the work done against the friction was required for credit.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/43 Q7(c)(ii) (Cambridge)

Many candidates gained partial credit. Common mistakes were ‘electrical’ (for the store of the battery) and ‘potential’ or ‘kinetic’ (for the store of the mass).

— Examiner report, February/March 2025, 0653/32 Q7(c) (Cambridge)

Many correct calculations were seen. Partial credit was awarded to candidates whose working showed clearly that they knew that an area under the speed-time graph was required, even if they were not able to complete the calculation. Some candidates suggested random mathematical statements that evaluated to 0.36.
