What examiners said
Some candidates stated that the universal indicator gives a colour change when it is added to the dilute sulfuric acid. These candidates gained partial credit. Fewer candidates described referring to a chart to discover the actual pH value.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/33 Q5(a) (Cambridge)
A few candidates stated numbers for pH within the required range. Most either gave numbers in the alkaline range or just stated a word, for example, low. These answers were not awarded credit.
— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 0653/33 Q5(b)(ii) (Cambridge)
The higher-scoring candidates stated the correct colour changes for the test for water. There were no common incorrect answers, with a wide variety of colours being stated.
— Examiner report, February/March 2022, 0653/32 Q2(a)(i) (Cambridge)
