What examiners said
The anode, the positive electrode, was known by some candidates. Incorrect responses included cathode, anion and cation.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/33 Q5(b)(ii) (Cambridge)
Some candidates correctly identified the electrolyte. Candidates are reminded that an electrolyte is a molten or aqueous substance that undergoes electrolysis. In this case, the sulfuric acid is the electrolyte.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/33 Q5(b)(iii) (Cambridge)
This question was answered well. Candidates could see that that for each reading there was twice the volume of gas produced at the negative electrode compared with the positive electrode.
