What examiners said
Many candidates completed the equation correctly. The most common error in balancing was stating 2Li instead of 4Li on the left-hand side of the equation. Candidates are reminded that there are two atoms of lithium in Li2O, and to balance the oxygen atoms in the equation, 2Li2O must be formed, therefore needing 4 atoms of lithium to react.
— Examiner report, February/March 2024, 0653/32 Q2(c)(i) (Cambridge)
Many candidates were familiar with this equation. The credit available for correct balancing depended on correct chemical formulae.
— Examiner report, February/March 2024, 0653/42 Q5(d) (Cambridge)
Some candidates used the information in the introduction to complete the boxes for the reactants, gaining partial credit. Fewer gave water as the second product. Oxygen was the most common incorrect answer.
