What examiners said

Full credit was obtained by many candidates. Amino acids was the most well-known response, followed by absorption and assimilation.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/33 Q2(c) (Cambridge)

Only the strongest responses fully described how soluble food molecules are absorbed. Many just repeated the stem of the question using slightly different wording. Although some mentioned walls, they referred to the small intestine given in the question rather than capillary walls or cell membranes. Very few specified that the molecules entered the plasma for transport, and most just said the mole...

— Examiner report, October/November 2023, 0653/43 Q4(a)(iii) (Cambridge)

The correct answer was the most chosen response. Where candidates chose an incorrect option, they indicated that chemical digestion only occurs in the small intestine. Candidates need to remember salivary amylase (chemical digestion in the mouth).
