What examiners said

Many candidates gained partial credit for this question. There was some flexibility allowed for the first response, with descriptions of physical digestion in the mouth accepted as well as ingestion. Incorrect responses for the second response included movement, travel and flow. Candidates are reminded of the two functions of the small intestine, digestion and absorption of food.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0653/32 Q3(b)(i) (Cambridge)

Most candidates correctly linked the organ to its function. Some candidates selected option A, thinking that the functions of the large intestine are absorption and ingestion.

— Examiner report, October/November 2023, 0653/12 Q4 (Cambridge)

Candidates had no difficulty identifying the stomach and the mouth. Amylase was not quite so familiar. A common incorrect suggestion was protease.
