Inside the electric bell there is a solenoid. The solenoid coil is shown in Fig. 12.3. direction of current Fig. 12.3 On Fig. 12.3, draw the pattern of the magnetic field that is produced when an electric current passes through the solenoid as shown.
See it on the paper →On Fig. 12.2 draw the pattern of the magnetic field produced when a current passes through the solenoid. Include an arrow showing the direction of the magnetic field.

See it on the paper →The spring acts like a solenoid when there is a current in it. Draw on Fig. 9.3 to show the shape, and direction, of the magnetic field due to the current in the solenoid. direction of current
See it on the paper →Which diagram shows the pattern and the direction of the magnetic field around the wire?
See it on the paper →This question proved demanding for all but the strongest candidates. The magnetic field was sometimes drawn as a continuation of current joining one end of the solenoid to the other. It was common to see the magnetic field not being drawn through the centre of the solenoid. There were also difficulties in drawing the arrows in the correct direction.
— Examiner report, February/March 2024, 0654/42 Q12(b)(i) (Cambridge)
Although a large majority of candidates could recognise the shape of the magnetic field around a currentcarrying wire, almost half of these chose the wrong direction for the field lines, option B.
— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 0654/12 Q38 (Cambridge)
The magnetic field was sometimes correctly drawn as concentric circles around the wire with an arrow pointing anticlockwise. Lines of force were not always drawn as complete circles. The majority of answers had the correct direction of the magnetic field.
