What examiners said
Many candidates were able to describe the adverse effects of carbon monoxide on the health of humans.
— Examiner report, February/March 2024, 0654/32 Q8(b)(iii) (Cambridge)
A common misconception is that bond breaking releases energy. Some candidates tried to answer in terms of the number of bonds broken and the number of bonds made. Occasionally candidates attempted to explain this in terms of only bond making. Candidates that understood that bond breaking requires energy, generally scored highly.
— Examiner report, February/March 2023, 0654/42 Q11(e)(iii) (Cambridge)
This question proved problematic for some candidates with a number identifying only the bonds between the atoms of oxygen as needing to be broken.
— Examiner report, February/March 2021, 0654/42 Q5(f)(i) (Cambridge)
