One other reason the pupfish are endangered is the introduction of new non-native species of fish into the pupfish habitat. This is less of a problem where the water is at a high temperature or has an extreme pH. Suggest why.

See it on the paper →Describe how strains of antibiotic-resistant bacteria develop by natural selection. Some strains of bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics. (b) Antibiotics are used to treat people with bacterial infections.
See it on the paper →Fig. 3.2 shows some Columbia sheep. Columbia sheep are a type of sheep that are selectively bred to have very thick wool. Fig. 3.2 Describe the process of selective breeding by artificial selection to produce Columbia sheep with very thick wool.
See it on the paper →The statements A–E describe stages of natural selection. They are not in the correct order. A There is competition for resources. B Those with adaptations best suited to their environment survive and reproduce. C This process is repeated over several generations. D There is variation in a population. E Alleles are pass...
Selective breeding by artificial selection was quite well known. Many candidates were able to describe selecting sheep with desirable traits and breeding the selected sheep together. Fewer candidates were able to describe selecting the offspring with desirable traits and repeating the process over many generations.
— Examiner report, February/March 2025, 0654/32 Q3(b) (Cambridge)
Most candidates were awarded marks for understanding the description of natural selection in lions.
— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 0654/33 Q7(c)(ii) (Cambridge)
Most candidates understood that the antibiotic killed some of the bacteria. Most were able to state that the non-resistant bacteria died, or that only the resistant bacteria survived. A few thought that the bacteria that survived acquired resistance as it was the last one left.

Explain why the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria is an example of evolution. ,

See it on the paper →Name the type of selection that results in species being adapted to the environment they live in.
See it on the paper →Circle the correct words shown in bold to complete the sentences to describe how lions may have developed sharp, pointed teeth. There was a range of different length teeth in the lion population. The lions with sharp, pointed teeth were better at catching and killing other animals for food. The lions without sharp, poi...
