What examiners said
Most candidates correctly identified the shared bonds between hydrogen and oxygen. The rest of the structure was less successfully completed.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0973/41 Q5(e)(i) (Cambridge)
Most candidates gained one mark for drawing one dot and one cross in one of the overlapping circles between the H and the N. The completion of the whole diagram was more challenging with many candidates adding extra dots and crosses or forgetting to complete the electronic structure with eight electrons in total.
— Examiner report, October/November 2023, 0973/41 Q8(c) (Cambridge)
Some candidates did not appreciate that a molecule of nitrogen contains a triple bond. Occasionally candidates did not complete the electrons on the inner shells of the nitrogen atoms.
