What examiners said
Most candidates gave the correct chemical name for CaCO3. Candidates who performed less well overall tended to construct their own system and named it as ‘calcium carbon oxide’ or ‘calcium cobalt’.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0620/31 Q2(a)(i) (Cambridge)
Most candidates could state the correct chemical name from the formula given. However, there were a few candidates that incorrectly thought that the chemical name was ‘magnesium sulfite’ or ‘magnesium sulfur oxide’.
— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0620/32 Q2(a)(i) (Cambridge)
Candidates found this first question one of the most accessible questions on this paper and did reasonably well. They especially did very well on (e) and (i) but struggled with (a), (g) and (h).
