What examiners said

Most candidates named the egg cell correctly, but ovules, ovaries and sperm were also seen. There was some confusion between the terms ovum and ovule.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0610/31 Q8(b)(i) (Cambridge)

Fertilisation was sometimes described as fusion but was generally well recognised. Some responses incorrectly referred to implantation.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0610/31 Q8(b)(ii) (Cambridge)

Many candidates gained this mark, mostly for zygote but occasionally for fertilised egg cell. Some candidates were confused between zygote, embryo and foetus.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0610/31 Q8(b)(iii) (Cambridge)
