What examiners said
Those candidates that realised that they needed to use differentiation of a product were able to gain some marks. It was also essential that the coordinates of the point B were calculated. This was done correctly by most candidates that attempted this question. It should be noted that an exact value of the gradient was required.
— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 9709/22 Q5(a) (Cambridge)
This question was answered well by most candidates. Almost all were awarded the first B1, although a few missed differentiating the θ term within y. The vast majority also achieved success using either the product or dy dy dx the quotient rule. Again virtually all were able to obtain from their and . There were some dx dθ dθ notation errors where t or x were used instead of θ, and some omitted the...
— Examiner report, May/June 2023, 9709/33 Q4 (Cambridge)
Most candidates were awarded the first B1 mark, for differentiating either x or y correctly, with the vast dx majority achieving success with . About half of the candidates did not use the chain rule correctly in dt dy 1 attempting and so the majority of these candidates gave as their answer. Nearly all the dt sin ( 2t ) d y dy dt candidates were able to use = . correctly, so were awarded the firs...
