What examiners said

Finding the direction of the common perpendicular was well done. The majority of candidates then found a vector joining a point on each line and projected it on to the normal to accurately find the distance. A small number tried to find where the common perpendicular intersects each line, but these attempts were rarely complete.

— Examiner report, October/November 2023, 9231/11 Q4(a) (Cambridge)

A few candidates confused the position vector of the given point with a direction vector. Successful solutions found a second direction using a point on the line l1.

— Examiner report, October/November 2023, 9231/11 Q4(b) (Cambridge)

This was usually correct, with the vector product method being most popular and a few using simultaneous equations.

— Examiner report, October/November 2023, 9231/12 Q5(a) (Cambridge)
