What examiners said

Comprehensive responses • Candidates familiar with the term-to-term rule for a sequence usually gave a correct answer. Limited responses • Some candidates gave general expressions in terms of n, rather than providing a specific answer as required by the question. • Many gave answers of 10, subtract 54, multiply by 10, or listed all the differences between the numbers.

— Examiner report, February/March 2026, 0580/12 Q5(a) (Cambridge)

Comprehensive responses • It was clear from a large majority of responses that solving linear equations was a topic understood. Unfortunately that was not the question. Limited responses • While most candidates identified the correct wrong line, almost all indicated that the +2 had to be subtracted first and did not consider the error made in a correct method of multiplying by the denominator 5....

— Examiner report, February/March 2026, 0580/12 Q27(a) (Cambridge)

Comprehensive responses • A more straightforward question to end the paper was done quite successfully by those who attempted it. Limited responses • Many incorrect responses gave the reciprocal of the correct answer. • Another common error was to bring a square root into the answer since a squared term was in the formula.
