What examiners said

Many that attempted this question showed little understanding of the term, ‘reciprocal’. Wrong answers 5 included or –5. It was noticeable that many of the answers were values from the previous question. 1

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0580/11 Q5 (Cambridge)

Some candidates gave the correct answer, but a large number did not know how to deal with the decimal.

— Examiner report, May/June 2025, 0580/13 Q1(b)(ii) (Cambridge)

In this part, candidates dealt with the square roots usually by writing 8 as 2 2 , or by dividing: 8 2 = 4 . A common error was to write 40 8 = 40 2 2 and then 42 2 . Some candidates failed to fully process their answer and left it as 8 4 .
